Description:

The Sony XBR '950 series are rear-projection LCD TVs that include a built-in HDTV tuner. There are two key factors that determine the picture quality of "fixed-pixel" TVs like this XBR Grand Wega: the pixel count of the display panel(s), and the video processing circuitry. The KDF-70XBR950 uses three LCD elements (one each for the red, green, and blue signals), and each is packed with over one million pixels (1386 x 788 better than 720p).

It's Dependable

Strengths: Picture quality

Weakness: None

I purchased my big 70" in July of 2004. Today I had to replace the lamp. This is after 5 years of service and 11,000 hours on the unit. I am 63 years old and have been watching TV since the mid 50's. This is the best of the best. I will continue replacing the lamp every 5 years, but next time I will do it myself and save the service call.

Strengths: GREAR PICTURE, GREAT SOUND THIS TV HAS IT ALL

Weakness: BULB BURNS OUT TO OFTEN

THIS LCD TV IS EXCELLENT THE PICTURE QUALITY IS THERE ITS ALL THERE. ONE MORE THING THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THE BULB IT COST ABOUT 180 DOLLARS. WHEN BULB STARTS TO WEAR YOU SEE THE PICTURE STARTS TO FADE OVER TIME. THEN THE BULB BURNS OUT OR EXPLODES. WHEN I PURCHASE THIS TV I WAS TOLD ITS BETTER THEN PLASMA AND IT WILL LAST FOR A VERY LONG TIME. (LCD BULBS LAST ABOUT 3000 HOURS THEY DON'T TELL YOU...

Strengths: BIG!

It is BIG! actually HUGE! That is the word coming out of every visitor's mouth the moment they see it. Crystal clear even without the HD cable box coming next week. Cleanest streamline design among all the big TVs, state-of-the-art look, not a hulking monster as all other big screens. Highest quality and brand image, certainly the biggest TV. To the guys who need the biggest and best, one TV to...

Strengths: Great picture quality. HD channels are absolutely amazing. DVD's are better than being at the theatre. Can't wait for Hi Def DVD's, although how can the picture improve......

Weakness: None that I know of, especially not at the price it's selling for these days.

I've worked my way up over the years from an RCA 42" bigscreen, through Panosonic and this is my second Sony (last one a 61"). There is no comparison. Anyone with decent set of eyes will be blown away by the picture quality. I am glad I bought it when I did, even though the price has dropped since then. Wouldn't have wanted to miss out on over a year's worth of great entertainment. Highly...
